Seattle Mariners Acquire Luis Castillo From Cincinnati Reds

The Seattle Mariners are finalizing a deal to acquire starting pitchers Luis Castillo from the Cincinnati Reds according to Jeff Passan. Cincinnati wants receiver prospects Noelvi Marte, Edwin Arroyo, Levi Stoudt and Andrew Moore in return.

Castillo, 29, is in his sixth season of Major League Baseball, which have all come with the Cincinnati Reds. He has a 44-53 record and a 3.62 ERA in his career, which is impressive given that Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati is widely known as a hitter's park. This season, he has a 4-4 record with a 2.86 ERA.

With the Mariners' record at 54-46, they will hope that this move helps them make a playoff push then helps them compete for a title. They are currently tied for fifth in all of baseball with a team ERA of 3.58, so getting Castillo adds to one of their strengths as a team.

Cincinnati has clearly gone into rebuilding mode after cutting salary heading into the season. That included sending Jesse Wincker other Eugenio Suárez to the Mariners during the offseason. They currently sit at 38-61 and have already traded away players for prospects.

Marte, a shortstop, was the 18th-ranked prospect in baseball according to mlb.com. He is 20 years old and is playing at the High-A level. This season he batted .270 with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs.

Arroyo is another infielder who was the 93rd-ranked prospect. The 18-year-old has been in A-ball batting .316 with 13 home runs and 67 RBIs this season.

The Reds also received pitchers in Stoudt (24) and Moore (22). Stoudt is a former third-round pick who has a 5.28 ERA in AA this season. He is known for having a good changeup. Moore has a 1.95 ERA in A-ball this season.
