Ubisoft Pulling Online Features From Older Games > NAG

Everyone's favorite gaming studio Ubisoft has announced that from the 1st of September 2022, it will no longer be supporting any online features for a selection of older titles. Anyone who owns one of the “decommissioned” titles won't be able to play multiplayer, link their Ubisoft account, or, most importantly, access any DLCs they may own.

Ubisoft said in a statement: “Closing the online services for some older games allows us to focus our resources on delivering great experiences for players who are playing newer or more popular titles”. While this is a sound argument, and it makes sense to cut off multiplayer to games no one plays anymore, the core problem comes from cutting off access to owned DLCs, and in the case of Space Junkies, the entire game.

In actual fact, the multiplayer VR shooter Space Junkies showcases an even more troubling side of things because the game is still available to be purchased on Steam with no warning that the game will be unplayable in September.

Below is the complete list of Ubisoft games that will be affected by the changes coming in the next two months and which features will be removed from said games. It's worth noting that Ubisoft has announced that any remastered versions of the games listed below will not be affected by the upcoming cull.

The games on the chopping block are:

Anno 2070 – Losing access to multiplayer; No longer being able to link accounts.

Assassin's Creed 2 - Losing access to multiplayer; No longer being able to link accounts.
